After a long absence....

Doesn't it always seem like our goals start with the best of intentions, only to fall to the wayside when other things come along? My husband noticed that I have been exceptionally grouchy for the last week - I traveled to Washington DC for the Marine Corps Marathon, we got chased out of town by Hurricane Sandy soon after the race, I had a midterm to make up for school, started a new job, and then on Thursday, the basement flooded. With all of that going on, I became (understandably) increasingly cranky. Not to mention I also had a birthday which came and went with no fanfare, as I had chemistry class for 4 hours that night. It finally occured to me on Sunday afternoon, with cranky pants on full throttle, that i had not run since the MCM last Sunday. Could it be....? Yeah, I need to get the shoes on and get out there! Finally Getting Started

Why is it so hard to commit to anything, to actually start? I've wanted to start this blog since February 1, but keep telling myself, "I can wait until tomorrow." Then it was March 1, then April 1, then…well, you get it.

Today is July 11. Why start now? A friend of mine died on Saturday. She was at church last Sunday, and I was going to stop and talk to her, since I hadn't seen her in awhile. But she was busy. She was already talking with a bunch of people. I told myself, I can talk to her next week. Little did I know, there would be no "next week". There will be no more opportunities this side of heaven to talk, to laugh, to share memories.

Procrastination has to take a back seat to urgency. Today is finally the day to start. What are you waiting for?

Life is a marathon - enjoy the run!

My marathon time qualifies me for Boston - but I have to be 75. So yes, I am slow, but despite my slowness, I have completed five full marathons, several half marathons, and dozens of 3-5 milers. All of that time in running shoes does give your mind ample time to wander, and I often find life lessons in the early mornings, the pain and the suffering, the camaraderie and the loneliness, and in the healing and celebrations!

Life is a marathon, and we can learn a lot of life's lessons along the way. No running is required. Join me for training as we put in our miles together!
